Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been awarded the FWA Footballer of the Year. It is said that he has completed his redemption from outcast to hero by winning this title, given by the Football Writers’ Association (FWA).
Last month he was awarded the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) player of the year. Now, by winning another title, his honor probably doubled.
The honor follows an astonishing turnaround for Luis Suarez. The 27-year-old Uruguayan finished ahead of team mate Steven Gerrard and Yaya Toure of Manchester City in the poll. But he began this season serving the remainder of a 10-match ban, which was imposed for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic.
Yes definitely he missed the first five games of the season. But now he is the Premier League’s top scorer this season with 30 goals with two matches remaining. And Luis Suarez will play against Gerrard and England in the World Cup in Brazil next month.
Although with all his attributes, Luis Suarez couldn’t sustain Liverpool’s Premier League title challenge. Manchester City have already won the Premier League.
Of around 300 members, Luis Suarez polled 52 per cent of the vote. He got only two, last year.
“Our voting opened just 12 hours after the biting incident at Anfield last season, so that was taken into account”
FWA Footballer of the Year is not only based on player’s achievements on the pitch. It also depends on their behavior throughout the season.
“His behavior throughout the season has been very good”
“There is an element of redemption – allied with those 30 goals and the sensational talent he has displayed all season -and it has made him a very popular choice.”
Luis Suarez becomes the 10th Liverpool player to win the award. One of their previous winners of WFA award, Ian Rush praised Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers for this. The way he handled a difficult period at the start of this season, is really praiseworthy.
Rush told Sky Sports,
“Suarez was training by himself and the manager welcomed him back and said you are one of the players now”
“The manager could have handled it differently. And Luis Suarez has repaid him.”
Ian Rush was the FWA Footballer of the Year in 1984. He also praised Luis Suarez for his work. Rush indicated about his huge influence on the Liverpool team attempting to win the title after a long decade.
“I think he has made a big difference to Liverpool’s players – not just himself.”
FWA Footballer of the Year award is the oldest of its kind in world football. It was first awarded in 1948 with Stanley Matthews the first recipient.
Samir Nasri’s big money move to Manchester city made him sure that his wages soared up. Currently he earns £ 140k per week and he rounds off the top 10 list of highest paid footballers in English Premier League.
Eden Hazard is currently earning £185k per week and Chelsea may have to breach the £200k if they intend to keep him out of the reach of PSG. Eden Hazard is a kind of footballer who is tipped to be a future Ballon d’OR winner and typically he is the highest paid footballer in Chelsea.
On this list of highest paid footballers in the English Premier League, he kicks off the Manchester United domination.
3. Yaya Toure (Manchester City)
Yaya Toure also earns £200k per week and yes, he isn’t the highest paid player in the Manchester City squad! Yaya was undoubtedly City’s best player of the 2013-14 season which saw them win the league title twice in the three years span.
At early in the premier league season there were some rumours surrounding Rooney’s proposed move to Chelsea. Manchester United made sure they held on to Rooney by making him sign a new five year contracts which worth £300k per week. Thus Rooney is the on the top of our list of highest paid footballers in the English Premier League.
Many saw his return to Stamford Bridge as being a major indicator the Blues would lift the Premier League trophy again. But their deficiencies eventually restricted them to a third-place finish. Champions League semi-final is also no surprise for them.
May be Chelsea is lacking a true world class striker. They have plenty of talent in defense and midfield. So their downfall is probably the cause of striker.
Chelsea mustn’t be planning for being undefeated against the top four in the league. It can be a better prospect for the teams like Aston Villa, Sunderland or Crystal Palace. As these are the present struggling teams. They soaked up pressure before striking. They could have liked a shock victory against their opponents.
This season ended for Chelsea a little bitter way. In some cases they progressed but they had to put an end without being able to punish their opponent squads.
Diego Costa and Mario Mandzukic:
Mourinho has already been quick to act for the remedy. He is waiting for Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid to arrive imminently. There is also another possibility. The Brazilian cum Spaniard could be joined in attack by another striker. This one is from Bayern Munich, Mario Mandzukic.
The World Cup event may be taking all the focus for the present month and half of the next. But these rumors prove that Chelsea have plenty of fans to be excited about even in this World Cup event.
Definitely, the potential of two big names (Diego Costa and Mario Mandzukic) arriving at Stamford Bridge will whet the appetite. Still, there are confusions about the other front men from the Blues.
The English media is expecting that Chelsea will be finding an entirely new front line for them, next season.
Everyone is expecting, Fernando Torres as the biggest casualty. Even Chelsea star Demba Ba’s future is questioned. Many suggesting him to join the Turkish club Besiktas.
Another thing, Samuel Eto’o’s one-year contract will expire shortly. He hasn’t been offered a renewal. Romelu Lukaku is also in doubt. Will he be trading places with Diego Costa at Aletico Madrid??
Regardless of the talent he acquired, Mourinho could well be placing himself in a weaker position if he offloads all four players as suggested.
Both the players Diego Costa and Mario Mandzukic have proven their undoubted qualities in recent seasons. But it’s very difficult to rely that much on just two front men to carry the Blues’ hopes. Even it’ll be risky for Mourinho himself.
Chelsea would become incredibly weak, if one of these players get suspensions, injury or even loss of form. Their rivals will not allow them such weakness endured.
Manchester city have already big stars like Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko, Stevan Jovetic and Alvaro Negredo. They just need to choose from. While Liverpool also added Rickie Lambert to their ranks.
This is not a rare story. Similarly each of the clubs in this continent is trying to boost up their front line with enviable forwards. May be Mourinho needs to do the same. Diego Costa and Mario Mandzukic can easily be the preference.
There is not many more options of clearing out the players who failed to prove themselves last season. The manager must find something more to flourish them. And this can be a greater solution for him.
Various times in the last stages of 2013 and 2014, Ba came to rescue Chelsea. He scored some the vital goals, especially against Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool. Fernando Torres also proved in Europe. He scored five goals in ten Champions League matches.
When given an opportunity, Lukaku also scores for the team. Though he was much more successful in Everton. But he tries his best to find some space for the Chelsea team.
Now that, in a situation like this Mourinho must take a decision. A decision about the former strikers and the upcoming twos. The World Cup 2014 have already seen, Diego Costa failed to prove for the Spaniards. Mandzukic still going on with pace and beauty. He can become a great addition for the Blues.
Yes of course, again after 12 months, we will be here discussing the transitions at Stamford Bridge. But Mourinho must be needing some urge to accomplish as to reside with the Blues for some more. Then the statistics will also be with us about Diego Costa and Mario Mandzukic at Chelsea.
In order to transfer Suarez a club should meet a release-clause of around £80m that was included in the £200,000 per week contract Suarez signed in last December. Though it was a third time since Suarez bit an opponent in three years, Liverpool’s valuation has not altered. However, Ian Ayre puts his interest in the Barcelona winger Alexis Sanchez.
If the Chile international moves to Anfield, he would be valued in the £30m region by Barcelona. The Catalans are much more keen for the courtship of the Premier League leading goal scorer, Luis Suarez.
With the influence of Barcelona, Suarez may go to public with an apology for biting Chiellini amid concerns over how his prospective transfer would be received. Six days after the incident on Monday, the apology and U-turn from Suarez duly followed via social media. The Barca employees were fulsome in their praise of Suarez’s action.
Barcelona’s Sporting director, Andoni Zubizarreta speaks at unveiling of the midfielder Ivan Rakitic,
“ Luis Suarez is humble enough to admit an error. In this case it’s the best thing a person can do”
The former Barcelona and Spain goalkeeper added ,
”Everyone knows last season he played in various positions in attack, but everyone also knows that he is a Liverpool player and he is an excellent player indeed.”
Ivan Rakitic also commented by saluting Suarez character and strength
“ Suarez has the necessary quality to play for Barca”
Meanwhile, Liverpool will attempt to develop their defence following the £25m signing of Adam Lallana. The English midfielder Lallana joins his former Southhampton team-mate Rickie Lambert and the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can,£4.5m and £9.85m deals respectively.
Liverpool manager’s leading central defensive target is Croatia international Lovren. The manager is believed to be keen on a move to Merseyside despite rival interest from Tottenham Hotspur, the club which is currently led by the former Southampton coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Liverpool supporters will recall Suarez’s finer moments in the club , the hat-tricks, stunning goals, individual skill while he becomes free to undergo the medical for Barcelona. The Suarez transfer news is not a gossip anymore. The legend Kop banner was inspired by Suarez saying,
“Luis Suarez can nutmeg a mermaid’.
In reaction to Suarez transfer news others will also recall one of the final images of Luis Suarez when he ushered off the pitch at Selhurst Park by Captain Steven Gerrrd, his face covered to his tears.
The Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez arrived in the Catalan city on Tuesday to complete the formalities of his reported €94 million (£75m) transfer from his former Club Liverpool.
According to a Spanish press Manchester United are targeting Angel Di Maria and Juan Cuadrado for the upcoming season.
Mundo Deportivo claims Manchester United are ready to trump FC Barcelona for Cuadrado’s signature offering €38 million-which equates to approximately £30 million!
Juan Cuadrado appears as one of the Colombia’s World Cup stars. Likely he is widely expected to move during this summer season. His versatility is a huge draw for teams aside his flying pace. He drew the attention to most of the renowned Clubs who are currently looking to strengthen a number of positions quickly. Both Manchester United and Barcelona are currently working on rebuilds after disappointing last season and may see Juan Cuadrado as a ready-made solution to their problem in the right flank position.
Under the Dutch coach, Louis Van Gaal, Manchester United are starting to improve their attacking style as the Red Devils scored 10 goals in two preseason games so far. Van Gaal has favoured three centre-backs during the club’s tour of US. Luke shaw and Antonio Valencia were acting as wing-backs. Juan Cuadrado is a kind of such a natural winger who can effectively fill in at right back. Probably, that’s why he is in the eyes of Van Gaal.
His necessity is likely to be equal at Nou Camp too. In Barcelona Cuadrado would likely be used on the right side of midfield, presuming Dani Alves remains with the club. Although Barcelona have the added draw of Champions League, Manchester United can likely afford to offer Fiorentina more money and Juan Cuadrado a better wage. Cuadrado’s future may come down to preference if the two giants go head-to-head.
With Los Blancos, Di Maria posted an excellent season. However, he never really hit top gear before getting injured in Brazil. It is obvious that his speed, energy and dribbling skils inject urgency into Madrid’s play. That’s why his potential exit will be discussed so seriously.
” Angel Di Maria has just finished the World Cup, he resting on holiday and he will return to Valdebebas on 5th August.”
On the other hand, Louis Van Gaal certainly has some glaring gaps in his squad. The United supporters are likely to be panicked as United’s first competitive fixture of the Premier League season is rapidly approaching on 16th August. But there is no denying that plenty of transfer action will be coming at Old Trafford.
Both Angel Di Maria and Juan Cuadrado offer multi-faceted styles that would certainly bring sheer pace to Manchester United’s game. Under David Moyes, it is acknowledgeable that invention and energy were lacked in Old Trafford. Both of them can be obtained by the aforementioned stars.
United supporters will certainly be pleased with the rampant start to life under Louis Van Gaal. This means nothing if the united squad is unable to compete once the real game begin. With a traditional United side, many names will continue to be linked that should be looking to make a fast impact once the new Premier season is underway.
With the start of the new Barclays Premier League season of 2014/15 just a few weeks away, we are here to look at some youngsters who will be making the differences. We present you the list of top 10 young footballers in EPL in this Premier League season.
When the season gets underway all the players will be 21 or even younger but they still have plenty of experience. In our list, players from top English Clubs seem to dominate. There is several reasons to be hopeful for the future for fans on Merseyside as the Everton and Liverpool players account for half of the list.
Young footballers in English Premier League:
1. Ross Barkley
For Everton Ross Barkley produced a string of impressive performances last season. It was a real breakout season for him. The 20- year-old midfielder featured in total 34 Premier League games and netted six goals. Towards the end of the last season, his superb effort was most notable.
Ross Barkley has already collected nine caps for England national team, making his debut in September 2013. His Brazil World Cup experience will have done him good and we can expect to see another strong season from Barkley this year.
Ross Barkley has made his place in our list of top 10 young footballers in EPL.
2. Raheem Sterling
The 19 year-boy, Raheem Sterling has two seasons of first team experience in the bag. Sterling already earned Liverpool’s first choice 11 and it is hardly surprising considering the trouble that he causes for the opponent defenders. His dribbling abilities, his equal capacity to play on the left, right or even in the center, made him one of the few highlights of England’s World Cup campaign. In the World Cup match against Italy, his excellent display caused numerous problems for the Azzurri. In the next upcoming season, Raheem Sterling has a great chance to improve in order to fill the void left by Luis Suarez’s exit.
3. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, another exciting youngster made his debut for the England National team in May 2012 as an 18 year old. He already travelled to two major tournaments and represented England 15 times. The pacey and exciting winger like Oxlade-Chamberlain can light up games with his darting runs down the wings and is capable of grabbing several goals over the course of the next season. His last campaign was disrupted by a number of injuries and his club Arsenal will be hoping that they can keep him fresh this season. If Arsenal want to push on and have their first serious title challenge, Chamberlain will be a vital ingredient for them.
4. Adnan Januzaj
Though Manchester United had their worst ever Premier League Season, the only highlight for them was the emergence of Adnan Januzaj. The 19 year old Belgian made his debut as a late substitute against Wigan and then went on to quickly establish himself as a regular in the first team. He eventually appeared 35 times and netted four goals in all competitions. Adnan Januzaj is equally comfortable in a central attacking midfield or in the wing. His excellent dribbling abilities and passes made him one of the finest young footballers in Europe. If Januzaj will able to gain more consistency this season, he could be a real star in the Premier League.
5. Luke Shaw
It has been a meteoric rise for the 19 year-old, Luke Shaw while Manchester United paid £30 million for the left back, making him the most expensive ever teenager this summer. In January 2012, Luke Shaw made his debut for Southampton and with some excellent performances he quickly came to the attention to the Premier League Clubs. After some eye catching skills, he made his debut for The England National team in February 2014, before being included in the World Cup squad. Hopefully he will occupy the number three role for England for the best part of the next decade.
He is one of the young footballers in the English Premier League in this season.
6. Romelu Lukaku
Romelu Lukaku, the 21 year-old is a proven goalscorer in the English Premier League. In the last two seasons while playing on loan for West brom and Everton, he bagged 32 goals in the last two seasons. He put himself ahead of established stars like Daniel Sturridge, Sergio Aguero and Wayne Rooney during the same period. However, the question is why Chelsea would let him go? He returned to Everton and it seemed that the loss of Chelsea is Everton’s gain. We can certainly expect more of the same from Lukaku this season as he is determined to push them into the top four.
7. John Stones
The 20-year-old, John Stones is another product of the youth system at Goodison Park. After his debut on New Year’s day this year, he made himself the heart of Everton defence. Less than six months later, john Stones picked up his cap for England against Peru. Although he didn’t make it to the World Cup, but there is evidence that John Stones has the eminent potential to be a star for Three Lions in near future. He will likely be in the first choice 11 for Everton when the season kicks off. If he continues to improve more and more, it shouldn’t be long before he becomes regular for England National team.
8. James Ward-Prowse
In the upcoming 2014/15 season, it will be a great chance for the Southampton midfielder to be the main man. Last season, he showed a tremendous ability with the ball and established himself as a first team regular. Ward-Prowse will be seen as a key man for Southampton this season and it will be right time to make a real name for himself. If Ward-Prowse can handle the extra responsibility, it could well be that he will go on to greater things in this season. On the other hand, it will be hard for Southampton to keep hold of him too.
9. Jon Flanagan
Jon Flanagan, the 21 year-old got his opportunity last season because of several injuries in Liverpool. He made some excellent performances in his unfamiliar position of left-back. Although he is more comfortable in the right side of defence, Jon Flanagan looked assured on the left-back and his marvelous form earned plenty of plaudits. For the right-back role he has got Glen Johnson. As it will help him to get more game time, his flexibility could prove to be a great benefit for the Reds. Jon Flanagan earns his debut for England this summer against Ecuador. If he can maintain the rhyme in the club level, we can see him wear more caps for England side too.
10. Ben Davies
Two years ago, Ben Davis made his professional debut for Swansea. Since then, the 21-year-old boy went on to play 85 times for Swansea and also appeared ten matches for Wales. His consistency and strong performance drew the attentions of the big clubs from the English Premier League, like Tottenham Hotspur. Ben Davis possesses the quality to make a name for himself at White Hart Lane, but as bigger the club as higher the pressure. He will have to cope with all of that, for the sack of making his career great.
In the game of football, goalkeeper is the only man who can hand the ball. He is the savior of the team and the wall between the posts. They have to play the vital roles throughout the game and in recent years with the rise of some devastating strikers, they had to evolve themselves as well. Today Sporty Ghost brings you a list of top 10 best goalkeepers in recent World Football. Your constructive comment about the list is advisable.
Top 10 best goalkeepers in World Football:
1. Manuel Neuer ( Germany and Bayern Munich)
After spending an excellent 2010/11 season for Schalke, Bayern Munich spent $26 million on Manuel Neuer, with another $10 million dependant on his overall performances. So many Bayern Munich supporters felt that the club had overspent on him as his contract was due to expire in 2012, a player who would have been available for free. Manuel Neuer has silenced all the critics and has become the best goalkeeper at the FIFA 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He won the golden gloves as Germany won the World Cup for the first time since 1990.
Manuel Neuer is in the No. 1 position of our list of Top 10 best goalkeepers.
2. Iker Casillas ( Spain and Real Madrid)
At Real Madrid he is known as “Saint Iker”. But unfortunately he was dropped most of the time in 2012/13 season in La Liga by Jose Mourinho. Despite this he remains a club legend, having come through the youth system of Real Madrid. Often he has had the misfortune due to inadequate defense in front of him. Real spent a lot to assemble a fearsome attack, neglecting the backline. But it was truly a great chance for Casillas to show his skills to an even greater extent, putting his body on the line and making some spectacular saves. In the 2010 World Cup winning for Spain, Iker was the potent savior and the captain of the winning side.
3. Gianluigi Buffon ( Italy and Juventus)
When Italy lifted the 2006 World Cup, it was considered that Gianluigi Buffon is the best goalkeeper of the last decade alongside Iker Casillas. In 2001, his move from Parma to Juventus remains the most expensive transfer as a goalkeeper. Now, at the age of 30, injuries may be taking their toll on him, but Buffon remains as the wall for his Club and his country. To us he is one of the best goalkeepers in World football.
4. Victor Valdes ( Spain and Barcelona)
It was a kind of misfortune for Victor Valdes of being in his prime at the same time as Iker Casillas, the man who has held the Spain jersey for over a decade. For Barcelona, Valdes is the most successful goalkeeper, having won six La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues. Victor Valdes, the former Tenerife youth is terrific in one-on-one situations. Valdes only earned his first cap for Spain National Team in 2010.
5. Petr Cech ( Czech Republic and Chelsea)
Petr Cech has been a model of consistency for Chelsea since his arrival in 2004. He rarely makes any error and has helped his club to win three Premier League titles and a Champions League title. In 2006, in a controversial challenge by Reading’s Stephen Hunt, Petr Cech suffered a devastating injury with fractured skull. Soon he recovered and started to make some stunning saves despite Chelsea’s solid defense. It has made him the sign of his class and extreme concentration that he is rarely found wanting when called upon.
6. Joe Hart ( England and Manchester City)
Joe Hart made a huge contribution to the Citizen’s title win in 2012. Being a superb shot-stopper he is such a man between the posts who possesses with calmness and true authority. However, in the season of 2012/13 Hart didn’t able to show his magic anyway and despite his numerous strengths, the England goalkeeper needs to improve his handling and minimize errors.
7. Thibaut Courtois ( Belgium and Atletico Madrid)
Thibaut Courtois plays with firm confidence beyond his tender years and has made some truly remarkable saves since joining Atletico Madrid on loan from Chelsea in 2012. This promising goalkeeper will be one of the very bests in the World for the next decade while Chelsea have a ready-made replacement for Petr Cech once they decide to bring back the Belgian from his long term loan with Atletico Madrid.
8. Julio Cesar ( Brazil and Queens Park Rangers)
From the 2010 World Cup qualifiers Julio Cesar emerged as Brazil’s first- choice goalkeeper. The former Inter Milan keeper didn’t let his country down. In 2014 World Cup, his stunning saves in the penalty shootout against Chile saved Brazil. Later then, in the semifinals with a defenseless team, he didn’t do more. Hopefully, he will strongly come back to show his strength.
9. Hugo Lloris ( France and Tottenham Hotspur)
Hugo Lloris seems to have a promising career ahead of him both for his country and his club. The France captain Lloris is much more capable of keeping strikers at bay by boasting a long reach and superb reflexes. In August 2012, he was signed by Tottenham Hotspur as they were looking for a long-term option between the posts. But he has to be more advanced in making decisions.
10. Samir Handanovic ( Slovenia and Inter Milan)
The 6 ft 5 in Slovenian stopper established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A. In July 2012, after joining Inter Milan has become an asset for the team. Handanovic helped to form the spine of the Slovenia team by conceding just four goals in 2010 World Cup qualifying matches. His agility and penalty saving powers are becoming more valuable for his country and club.
The players, the managers and the assistants, the physios and many others contribute to build a team and various football clubs are formed. Each of these clubs comprise of players belonging to different countries, teams, and they step onto the field to compete with each other.

David De Gea has admitted that he is trying to persuade Barcelona star to join Manchester United.
This Spanish Red Devils stopper is looking to add further Spanish flair to Manchester United that also includes Juan Mata. De Gea during an interview about Cesc Fabregas said,
“I’m trying to get him to come.”
De Gea finds it a tough job as Arsenal have first option on Fabregas if he is to leave Camp Nou. A transfer mishap happened when David Moyes famously failed to land Fabregas last summer. That was an embarrassing campaign for the recently departed ManU boss.
Then Louise van Gaal took the charge and with his attempt the rebuilding club may feel that now is an excellent time to tempt Fabregas back to the Premier League. De Gea needs to spend more time convincing the new boss van Gaal. However, van Gaal isn’t bothered by the Fabregas’ potential availability reportedly.
Van Gaal remains uninterested in Ander Herrera, who continued to crop up during Moyes’ era. The Athletic Bilbao player is outlined as a potential replacement for Cesc Fabregas at Barcelona. The aforementioned report was suggesting that he could be a key in any deal that would see Fabregas move away from his boyhood club for the second time.
If United land Fabregas, plenty will need to be changed for them. Firstly, van Gaal’s mindset will need some alternations if Jones’ article is to be believed. Secondly, the player’s eagerness to join the club. Possibly, Fabregas must favour an Old Trafford move over a return to Arsenal, if the Gunners deem him a worthwhile target.
Arsenal midfield is crammed with similar players and the coach Arsene Wenger needs to prioritise a battling central midfield over a ball-playing type, alongside a world-class forward and right-back. Former Gunners star Ray Parlour questioned whether Fabregas is needed,
”The problem with Fabregas is where do you put him in the team? They have got very similar players to Fabregas—they have Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere , Santi Cazorla, —if you bring Fabregas back where do you fit him in? “
De Gea’s attempt of influencing Fabregas may give Manchester United an advantage if a transfer for Fabregas is deemed need. There is no doubt the team need a plethora of new talent across the board. Cesc Fabregas proven talent would be an asset to any team in the world. Though United may favour an imposing physical type instead like Arsenal.
Van Gaal will certainly direct the team towards right direction. But the thing’s for sure is the Dutchman need to land a handful of world-class stars before Manchester United can be taken again.
We know them by a single name, we know them like our own family members, they are known by the silhouette they cast along the touchline.
Mourinho, Wenger, Ferguson, Benitez….in past and present the English Premier League has seen its share of iconic managers and these are only four of them.
The list is based on the best winning percentage in the Barclays Premier League, having managed a minimum of 50 matches. The special ones like Pat Rice (Arsenal), John Carver (Newcastle) and Jim Barron (Aston Villa), who all boast a 100% winning record in the English Premier League. However, Carver and Barron have managed Newcastle and Aston villa respectively only once, whilst Pat Rice managed Arsenal three times, they fail to be included in our list of top 10 managers in English Premier League. But what a boast that was!
It is sure that the list will certainly spark some debates, so please feel free to have your constructive comments.
Top 10 Managers in English Premier League history
10. Gianluca Vialli (winning rate: 48%)
Between 1998 and 2000, Vialli managed Chelsea 94 times in the English Premier League. At the pre-Abramovich Chelsea era, the Italian had a great successful time. Vialli managed to win 45 games of the 94 matches in the Premier league, winning five trophies in less than three years of his service. He is the most successful manager at the time of his tenure at Chelsea with a league win record of 48% and it is easy to see why.

Kenny Dalglish, commonly known as ‘King Kenny’ in the red half of Liverpool FC, has had a successful career both as a player and a manager. Kenny had managed the Reds twice and in total 238 Premier League matches. The Scottish manager won 115 of those, earning himself a success rate of 48%.
8. Andre Villas-Boas (winning rate: 52%)
Andre Villas-Boas may have failed at Chelsea and Tottenham, but his win percentage suggests otherwise. Despite a success rate of 52% with winning 42 of his 81 Premier League matches, the Portuguese tactician has struggled enough to win over the critics in England. Still his winning isn’t half bad at all.
Rafael Benitez has proved himself to be one of the most iconic managers in English Premier League history and his record shows that. At Liverpool, Benitez won 141 of his 254 matches in the Premier League with a success rate of 56%. The Spaniard is now at Napoli and trying his best at Italian Serie A. Rafael Benitez is best remembered by the Liverpool fan for his significant role in Liverpool’s Champions League success in 2005.
5. Arsene Wenger (winning rate: 58%)
The current Arsenal manager is by far the most successful and also longest-standing manager in the English Premier League. The Frenchman started his managerial career at Arsenal in 1996 and he is still there now winning 386 of his 666 Premier League matches. Chelsea netted 103 goals in their 2009/10 season, more than any other club in Premier League history. His record of winning 48 games out of 76 matches suggests how successful he was at his time in England.
2. Sir Alex Ferguson (winning rate: 65%)
Sir Alex Ferguson is likely to be seen as one of the ionic managers to have graced English football more than anyone else. The tough Scotsman managed to win an incredible 528 wins in 810 Premier League matches. For Manchester United Sir Alex Ferguson won 13 EPL titles as well as many other titles. With an incredible performance, it is hardly surprising that Jose Mourinho leads this list of top 10 managers in English Premier League history with the success rate of 70%.
Barclays Premier League: Liverpool vs Manchester City match preview
For a game that has been billed as a title showdown, Manchester City travel to Anfield knowing that after full-time only one of these two teams will have their fate in their own side.
Considering the crunch confrontation, the Reds are top of the table with five more fixtures to go, 4 points clear of third-placed City. Though, city has two games in hand over them.
Only two days before the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy, a minute’s silence will be held, as a Kop mural displays “96” and “25 Years”. As a mark of respect, kick-off will be delayed by seven minutes, in line with other fixtures across English football this weekend.

Premier League, February 2013
Liverpool (Skrtel , Suarez) 2-2 Manchester City (Toure, Tevez),
Premier League, August 2012
Whoever wins this match will win the Premier League, that’s what I think. The winners will have all the momentum, but if I’m being honest I can’t see either of them getting it. So can’t wait to watch it and I think it will be a very entertaining football match as Manchester City don’t go anywhere and vindicate. At the other hand Liverpool won’t sit back because this is their good chance to win the Premier league.
Definitely Sergio Aguero’s return will make a lot of difference to City. So Liverpool will struggle to live with him – but at the same time I have to say how Man City can live with Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge. At Anfield the atmosphere has been absolutely remarkable recently – and for the Liverpool players and fans to win this game and virtually win the league on the day they celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hillsborough. Been brilliant this season and winning 9 games on the run is a huge ask in any league and truly I’m going for a 1-1 draw – although a 3-3 result wouldn’t really surprise me.
Daniel Agger (Centre-back) returns to Liverpool’s squad to face Manchester City on Sunday.
Top scorer of Manchester City, Sergio Agüero could also return for Sunday’s trip.
Liverpool have not lost any home match to Manchester City since May 2003.
After this match, City will have just one game against a team(another trip to face Everton) in the top half remaining,.
Penalty, Liverpool last scored was Steven Gerrard’s against Manchester City on January 25 earlier this year.
Manchester City are undefeated in their last five league games against Liverpool.
Still now these two teams are the top two scorers in the premier league this season – Liverpool have notched 90 times and City with 84 times. Chelsea are at 3rd with 65 goals.
Louis van Gaal may have planned to overhaul the Manchester United Players this summer. He is determined to get all his players learn at least one thing. He expects from all his players to speak in English, especially for the new faces from different non-English speaking countries.
Van Gaal has pledged to make all the Manchester United Players fluent in one language within one year. And undoubtedly that language should be English for them.
The Manchester Evening news reporter has confirmed that all the Spanish players have started lessons in English. This has been started more than two weeks ago.
The new season players are only two weeks in this country. Before that they were in USA. There was also international week in between. For the Spanish, speaking ability in Spanish was good enough for communication on the Spanish pitch. But for English Premier League they need to be promising about learning English.
So now, Language is a kind of relevant issue for Van Gaal’s squad (Manchester United Players). As there have been plenty of foreigners have been imported to Old Trafford. But still there are ample reserves of domestic and English-speaking talent inside the Manchester United Players.
There are quite some England Internationals for the Red Devils. Wayne Rooney, Luke Shaw, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are some of them. Midfielder Michael Carrick and Ashley Young can also be considered.
There are also some non-English players, who can still speak the very language. Darren Fletcher from Scotland and Jonny Evans from Northern Ireland can be counted too on the book. Most specifically there is another Dutchman in the list. Van Gaal’s fellow Dutchman Robin Van Persie has spent most of his career in England. So, he is easily expected to be fluent in English.
But still along all these English speaking Manchester United Players, there is a balancing group of players comfortable in speaking the Spanish.
As David de Gea Ander Herrera, Juan Mata, Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao and Marcos Rojjo preferred the language, before the QPR match, Spanish was quite the mother tongue in Red Devil’s dressing room.
Yes of course, many of them can speak English. In fact Falcao conducted all in English at his first press conference. Occasionally he had to grant help from his interpreter. Van Gaal also didn’t forget to praise him for this.
Van Gaal’s desire is probably to foster some Squad unity inside the Manchester United Players. Communicating in one language (preferably English) is very much important at the first point. Truly this a praiseworthy patient concern, considering the huge number of new arrivals.
To make room for the new arrivals, Javier Hernandez, Englishman Danny Welbeck, Wilfried Zaha, Tom Cleverly and Nani were dispensed. Currently the Manchester united Players and also the new signs are positively taking the chance, as they don’t have to UEFA Champions League this season. Captain Rooney has recently led a night with the reshuffled squad. I believe it’s very much important for the unity.
Wayne Rooney included his wife Coolen with them. Falcao, Marcos Rojjo, Angel Di Maria, Daley Blind, Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw were the new arrivals.
These kind of excursions can play a useful role for the Manchester United Players. More importantly this can bring a squad from the Red Devils together. Hopefully we will get have some aspects from the night at the pitch.
Van Gaal is probably well aware of cliques from such leaning on separate groups for camaraderie. Obviously this a hard time for the Old Trafford squad. Manchester united Players have already been struggling. And certain players simply resent are already being left out.
Wayne Rooney is supposedly very much keen to complete his current five-year contract with Manchester United.
Wayne Rooney and the gossips behind
This powerful English forward and amazing finisher inked a mega £300,000 per week deal earlier this year. This may suggest that his thoughts of leaving the club have alredy passed. Wayne Rooney admitted he would like to stay during a special 10-year anniversary interview with Manchester United TV.
” I think the plan is I’ve just signed new long-term deal at Manchester United and hopefully in five years time we will be sat down for a 12-year one. I don’t see any other reason why not.”
Manchester United’s twitter account posted a photo of highlights from Rooney’s stay to coincide with the TV interview’s release.
Sir Alex Ferguson on Wayne Rooney eye
The English striker, Wayne Rooney also confirmed he had no hard feelings toward former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Despite a public fallout with Sir Alex Ferguson toward the end of his United reign, Wayne Rooney appears to have settled matters with the man who took him from Merseyside to Manchester United.
Rooney said about Sir Ferguson,
” He was vitally important to me. I am grateful to him for having the faith to bring me in Manchester United from Everton. I think he is an incredible manager and an incredible person , the way you see his desire for the game. Ferguson certainly helped me a lot and helped us all.I am very much grateful for everything he has done.”
Wayne Rooney made the £25.4 million switch from Everton in 2004. Rooney has remained a key player for United ever since his debut hat-trick against Fenerbahce, but his United career has threatened to reach a crashing halt numerous times during the last decade.
The transfer gossip of Wayne Rooney
During the 2010 season, he was said to have handed in a transfer request after a series of some disagreement issues with Ferguson. At that time he also questioned the club’s ambition, suggesting he would exit if world-class signings weren’t made.
However, it was Sir Alex Ferguson’s departing comments on the hard- working player that most seriously tested Rooney’s desire to reach his landmark season with Manchester United.
Sir Ferguson suggested the player handed in a second transfer request as the 2012/13 season came to a close. The retiring manager, Ferguson had no problem dropping Wayne Rooney for key encounters-most notably against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League-and appeared set to continue frustrating his talisman until the very last.
But Rooney denied handing in the latter transfer request, despite Ferguson reiterating the footballers’ alleged desire to leave the Club in his autobiography.
Van Gaal and Wayne Rooney’s chemistry
However, later on, David Moyes restored Rooney to his preferred striking position upon taking charge of Manchester United and now the new boss Louis Van Gaal handed the long-serving player captaincy with the current campaign ahead.
Louis Van Gaal and Manchester United board also finally managed to deliver top-quality signings for Wayne Rooneyto work alongside. The likes of Radamel Falcao, Angel Di Maria, Ander Herrera, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and the youngster Luke Shaw can significantly improve Manchester United’s confidence after last year’s horrific disappointment. These world class players can also help Rooney return to his best.
Rooney is a very vital player for Manchester United right now. He holds a position of power and sees stars all around him-allowing the often criticised player time to reflect on an eventful 10 long years at the Theatre of Dreams.
Often it appeared that his cold war with Sir Alex Ferguson were brought on by both men possessing the natural ability to lead and strong ideas. If the manager did things his way-which would often disregard the emotion of his players-Wayne Rooney was susceptible to feeling the heat.
Neither pulled punches when it came to Manchester United, but the United fans will be glad to hear the two important figures in their club’s history appear to be on good terms.
The striker has scored two goals this season, netting in the defeat to Swansea and recent win over QPR. Rooney appeared on the pitch as a striker alongside Robin Van Persie, and then in the No. 10 position when Radamel Falcao entered the fray, highlighting the Englishman’s importance to the future of Manchester United.
Ronney is always the driving force behind Manchester United’s cut-and-thrust style of play. This may be at his best, but the worst side is, he is a complete liability. While supporters have grown accustomed to seeing both sides of his personality across the last decade, Wayne Rooney is becoming increasingly relevant to United’s hopes under Louis Van Gaal.
The end of Alex Ferguson’s tenure may have unsettled Wayne Rooney, but it’s his relationship with the Dutchman Van Gaal that will define whether Wayne Rooney makes it to his next landmark anniversary with Manchester United.
The Premier League is a corporation where twenty member clubs act as shareholders. Outside England, the League is commonly referred to as English Premier League (EPL). But currently Barclays Bank is the sponsor, so it is officially known as Barclays Premier League (BPL). Undoubtedly Premier League is the most watched or the most popular first division leagues in World Football.
Seasons run from August to May. Each team in the League need to play 38 games in a complete season. Accumulating all the matches (home and away), 380 matches are arranged in a complete season. Games are mostly played in Saturday and Sunday evenings.
There are so many top level teams in English Premier League. Teams like Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea have taken English football across Europe. They are often found to secure a good spot at UEFA rankings. So, top plyers definitely come in during the summer and winter transfers. English Premier League is considered one of the best Leagues to experience greater soccer platform and building successful footballing career.
Top five highest paid Midfielders in EPL:
Midfielders well justified here in EPL. The big name team need to spend millions of their money to occupy big shot midfielders with them. Some of these midfielders can also be counted as richest footballers. Here we are trying to develop a list of top five highest paid midfielders in Barclays Premier League. Notably we will find three of the total five playing for the Manchester City Club.
Let’s find, who is the highest paid midfielder in Barclays Premier League?
5. Steven Gerrard
Salary:5 million pounds annual
Hopefully, Steven Gerrard needs no introduction. He can be counted as one of the best players Liverpool have ever produced. He made his Liverpool debut in the year 1998 and since then has made 400 plus appearances for the English giant club.
Liverpool fans usually suggest him as the second best player in the red shirt after King Kenny. Steven Gerrard finished 3rd in the Ballon d’Or shortlist for Europe’s Best Player in 2003. Now a time we can consider him as the 5th highest paid midfielder in English Premier League. The 5th richest midfielder in England currently receives around 5million pounds per year as salary from his club.
Gareth Barry mainly operates in the holding role for Manchester City Club. Previously Barry played 365 games for Aston Villa before he decided to move here for a new challenge here in Man City. From the very beginning of his career in this club, Gareth Barry has been a regular starter in midfield. In a span of just two and a half years, he has already made 101 appearances for Manchester City. Recently Gareth had to move for Everton and hopefully he will again be the midfield holder for the club.
Gareth Barry is known to be a player with vision, durability, good tackling and terrific passing. Most probably he everything you can want from a central midfielder. Everton is currently paying him 6.2 million pounds per year. Which in turn makes him at number 4 in the list of highest paid midfielders in Barclays Premier League.
Frank Lampard is considered to be one of the best English footballers ever. He is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in English Premier League all time history. Lampard usually operates as a box to box midfielder for his team, both the National and Club. He is known to have a great footballing brain in addition to his outstanding work rate. In total, Frank Lampard has also produced 91 assists for his team. Undoubtedly this is the second highest in Premier League history.
Lampard was well known as a Chelsea megastar. There he had made 164 consecutive appearances and he is a three time player of the year for Chelsea. Perhaps it explains his consistency as a player. Currently he is being paid 7 million pounds annually from the club. Frank Lampard stands at 3rd position of most paid midfielders in Premier League table.
David Silva is Nicknamed “Merlin” by the Manchester City fans, which means the wizard. More often he is described as a traditional number 10 who is capable of dazzling the crowd. Recently Carlos Tevez lauded him as
“The best signing Man City have made”
David Silva was adjudged as the Premier League player of the month, on October 1st 2011.
Also, the Manchester City players’ player of the year award was gone to the Spaniard for 2011-2012 session. Now a time David Silva has become a regular member of Spain National Team. He signed for Manchester City from Valencia for a fee believed to be around 20 Million pounds. His salary is now 8.3 million pounds per year and he is the second most paid midfielder in English Premier League.
Yaya Toure has been a major force behind Manchester City winning the last season title of Premier League. He came with a big reputation from Barcelona FC to Manchester City to join his elder brother Kolo Toure. Toure has hardly put a foot wrong after beginning his career in England.
Yaya Toure is known for his brilliant vision and performance rate. Talking about the amount spent by City since Mansour bought the club, undoubtedly Yaya Toure can be considered as their best buy ever. No surprise, a player as industrious and dedicated like Toure gets what he deserves. He is being paid 10 million pounds per year as salary from Manchester City. That makes him the highest paid midfielder in Premier League.
Where goalkeepers are concerned, natural process has almost always been to have one consistent goalkeeper. Also there is another much-less-heralded backup in the event of an injury to the consistent choice. Major football clubs across Europe have been laughing in the face of that natural so called process. They have been buying backup keepers who could easily start for other major clubs to have as a solid backup goalkeepers. This recent stockpiling of goalkeepers that we are trying to make list of the top 10 most valuable backup goalkeepers in soccer 2015.
We can easily figure out the fact by just looking at Chelsea. Being one of the famous and richest clubs in Europe as well as England, Chelsea still have Petr Cech on their list despite the return of Thibaut Courtois. They have taken him after an extremely successful loan spell with Atletico Madrid last season. There’s also the fact that Manchester City recently signed Malaga’s Willy Caballero as backup goalkeeper to support their prior choice Joe Heart.
Barcelona signed both Claudio Bravo and Marc-Andre ter Stegen following the departure of longtime number one goalkeeper Victor Valdes. Who is still available for any club to be found as prime or backup goalkeeper. Real Madrid recently signed Costa Rican goalkeeping hero Keylor Navas to act as backup for Spanish goalkeeping legend Iker Casillas. No doubt, sometimes it feels like the number one goalkeeper of his age is currently on the downswing of his career with the Spanish Giants Real Madrid.
All this to say, backup goalkeepers are becoming a hotter commodity than ever in soccer. It’s becoming increasingly obvious as this transfer window comes to a close.
These 10 goalkeepers are still worth decent amounts of money despite their status of having to warm the bench. Though they are found more capable of providing a decent challenge to the guy in front.
Here we are discussing and making the list of top 10 most valuable backup goalkeepers in soccer / football world. These ranks are totally based on their market value.
Let’s find, who is the most valuable backup goalkeeper in soccer world?
10. Pepe Reina
Present Club: Bayern Munich
He was well known for so long as the main man in Liverpool. It’s a little bit strange to see Pepe Reina act as a backup nowadays in Bayern Munich. At 32 years of age, he is probably fitting that would be more accepting of a role as a mentor for Manuel Neuer, who is arguably considered as the best goalkeeper in world football.
With Bayern expected to make a serious run once again for the Champions League trophy this season, it was probably hard for the Spaniard. He is currently considered the number 10th of the list – top 10 most valuable backup goalkeepers in soccer. His current market value is at $6.6 million, which is turned down undoubtedly.
Maarten Stekelenburg is currently on loan at Monaco after Fulham. The Dutch goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg is acting as the backup goalkeeper for Les Rouges et Blancs behind Danijel Subasic this season. Surprisingly he is barely entered his 30s and has gained 54 caps for the Dutch national soccer team.
Marten may be several years removed from his best days as a member of Ajax, still has a market value of $7.3 million. Which makes him the 9th most valued backup goalkeeper right now. Stekelenburg still comes with a decent price tag for any team to have.
Jack has been considered as England’s goalkeeper of the future. Probably that’s the cause behind, Roy Hodgson brought him along for Euro 2012 two years ago. His previous club Birmingham City is proof enough that he’s got plenty of potential as goalkeeper.
However the 21-year-old is likely to play the role of backup to Asmir Begovic at Stoke. Unless the Potters can secure a last-minute loan spell for him. He is currently considered the 8th in the list of top 10 most important backup goalkeepers in the world. His current market value is $7.3 million. And he may not really be content to warm the bench despite his young career. He is being sent on a sixth loan spell may not be something he particularly wants either.
Willy had a very successful time as the main man at Malaga in La Liga previously. He has been inexplicably snubbed time and time again from the Argentine national team. Willy Caballero’s recent signing with Manchester City means that his chances of playing for his country have decreased a bit. As Joe Heart remains the main guy at the Etihad Stadium, he may only be called upon in case of injury.
Still with $7.3 million market price, Willy is at number 7 in this list of 10 most valuable backup goalkeepers in soccer 2015. It’s uncertain as to how long Caballero will be content to just be the second-string keeper at City.
Michael Agazzi is probably the least recognizable name on this list. The Milan backup goalkeeper Michael Agazzi has built up a decent reputation for himself as the main goalkeeper at Cagliari. At Chievo Verona earlier this year then led to him moving to the San Siro. They also signed Diego Lopez from AC Milan Football Club.
The 30-year-old is rated with a market value of $8.8 million. This makes him rank at 6th in the list of most valued backup goalkeepers in soccer world. He may not have much of a chance to compete for time as the number one keeper if Lopez’s performances for the Rossoneri are consistently better. The fact that longtime keeper Christian Abbiati is still on their books surely doesn’t also provoke.
Vorm has been capped 15 times by the Dutch national team. He was also chosen as going to the World Cup this past summer as a member of the Oranje’s third place team. Michel Vorm’s recent signing with Tottenham Hotspur may come back to haunt him.
As Hugo Loris firmly entrenched as Spurs’ number one man, also evergreen American goalkeeper Brad Friedel still on their side, Michel Vorm may have a difficult time starting games at White Hart Lane. He is at fifth position considering the backup goalkeepers priority list. The former Swansea City keeper is rated at a market value of $8.8 million. Hopefully he may not stay in Tottenham for a terribly long sessions.
He has been following a great run by the Colombian national team to the quarterfinals of this summer’s 2014 World Cup, Brazil. Most obviously David Ospina needed to play for a bigger club than Nice in Ligue 1. He had been playing with them after moving overseas in 2008.
Arsenal may not necessarily be the answer for that problem. Although he’s clearly good enough to start for a major club. He will likely have to fight for playing time with the Gunners’ longtime number one Wojciech Szczesny now. With a market value of $10.3 million, Ospina is considered 4th of the most valuable backup goalkeepers in 2015 soccer world. The 25 year old still young goalkeeper need his competition which could potentially be fierce.
Claudio Bravo is currently in the starting role for Barcelona FC. As a result of the fact that promising young German keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is out injured for some times. Once ter Stegen returns, Bravo may have to sit a number of games out for the Blaugrana.
He has been playing for the Chilean national team that made it past one of the World Cup’s round. He was the longtime number one for Real Sociedad. Claudio Bravo may not be satisfied to have to be part of a goalkeeping tandem. He is at no. 3 of the 10 most valued backup goalkeepers 2014/2015. At 31 years of age, his market value is $11.6 million, which is still considered fair enough.
Navas’ performances for his country at the 2014 World Cup Brazil this summer were nothing short of sensational. Undoubtedly his role in Costa Rica’s run to the quarterfinals was instrumental also. So it was obvious that Keylor Navas would not be content to still be playing for a club like Levante.
The sensational goalkeeper was rewarded with a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid. His market value of $14.6 million shows that he’s good enough to start for many big clubs around Europe. But it’s unknown how often he’ll have to jockey for position with another arguable greatest of our generation. Someday will definitely see him as the number one role at Bernabeu.
Cech has been linked recently to loan spells at clubs like Paris Saint-Germain. Still he remains on Chelsea’s books. It looks as if he’ll have to settle for a backup role behind young Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. Unfortunately if he doesn’t win his place back at Stamford Bridge, Petr Cech will be certain to move elsewhere.
For a time now, he’s still by far the most valuable backup goalkeeper with a market value of almost $25 million. He is also one of the best goalkeepers in recent years and still very much intact even at 32. People believes he has also fallen on the downturn of his career and leading the backup goalkeepers in world soccer.
