Top 10 strongest teams to win Euro 2016

Euro 2016 has been scheduled to be held in France from 10 June, 2016. It is the most exciting football championship participated by the European football playing nations. The whole world is waiting eagerly to see the strongest sides competing each others in Euro 2016. For the first time, the tournament will be contested by 24 teams. The group stage of the game is consisting of six groups of four teams, which is followed by a knock-out stage of three rounds and ultimately the final. The manager, Helenio Herrera adopted “Catenaccio” formation of 5-3-2, which allowed Inter to bring back wingers as opposed to the defensive minded full backs. The formation ensured Facchetti to become one of the best players at that time.

Then after a long interval, manager Jose Mourinho inspired the Milanese to win their 3rd champions league title in 2010. They defeated Bayern Munich by 2-0 in the final and became one of the top teams in champions league.

8. Manchester United, England

Titles won: 3 (1968, 1999, 2008)

One of the most tragic events in football history took place in 1958 when Munich Air disaster claimed the number of Manchester United players, including the young promising footballer Duncan Edwards. It took years to rebuild the team. Finally they gathered Bobby Charlton, George Best and Denis Law under one tent and started their triumph race in the champions league. In 1968 European league’s final, the red devils defeated Eusebio’s Benfica and lifted the crown for the first time.

Then in 1999, after 30 years, Manchester United got their hand on champions league trophy again. United met Bayern in the final and were a goal down within the first five minutes of the game. After leading the match for more than 85 minutes, Bayern was stunned by two injury time goals from Teddy Sheringham and Ole Solskjaer respectively. They took ManU to the 2nd  Champions league title. The dramatic win was one of the most memorable events in football history.

Nine years later, in 2008 they beat their domestic rivals Chelsea on penalties and claimed 3rd Champions league title. The club’s success was mostly contributed by Cristiano Ronaldo, who is currently the highest goal scorer in the champions league.

9. FC Porto, Portugal

Titles won: 2 (1987, 2005)

FC Porto is the most successful Portuguese football club. They lifted their 1st champions league trophy in 1987. The Portuguese side’s 2-1 victory came against the German club Bayern Munich. Their next title came in 2005 under the guidance of Jose Mourinho who made Porto a eminent football club.

 In the 2005 champions league final Porto were least favourite than the French side FC Monaco, who were in a good shape throughout the tournament. The Mourinho’s side ran out 3-0 winners against Monaco and claimed their 2nd title. FC Porto stands at no. 9 in our list of top 10 most successful champions league teams.

10. Juventus, Italy

Titles won: 2 (1985, 1996)

The Italian Serie a side put an end to dominance of Liverpool in 1985. It was their best team ever, which was consisted of Paolo Rossi, Zbigniew Boniek, Marco Tardelli, and Michel Platini. Giovanni Trapattoni led the Juves to win the final against Liverpool by 1-0, where Platini’s penalty was the winning one. Juventus became the first time in the history to win the champions league, despite being the top in serie A along with AC Milan for decades.

11 years later, Juventus again came back with new form of energy and met Dutch side AFC Ajax in 1996 final. The juves won on penalties after the match drew by 1-1 in 120 minutes. Alessandro del Piero was the most influential player for the Juves. They also reached the final in 2015 champions league, where they were defeated by the current champion FC Barcelona. Juventus is one of the best clubs in champions league.
