Messi’s passion for football was never stopped. He was so skillful from his very childhood with football like he is today. Top 10 Most Valuable Backup Goalkeepers in Soccer

Where goalkeepers are concerned, natural process has almost always been to have one consistent goalkeeper. Also there is another much-less-heralded backup in the event of an injury to the consistent choice. Major football clubs across Europe have been laughing in the face of that natural so called process. They have been buying backup keepers who could easily start for other major clubs to have as a solid backup goalkeepers. This recent stockpiling of goalkeepers that we are trying to make list of the top 10 most valuable backup goalkeepers in soccer 2015.

We can easily figure out the fact by just looking at Chelsea. Being one of the famous and richest clubs in Europe as well as England, Chelsea still have Petr Cech on their list despite the return of Thibaut Courtois. They have taken him after an extremely successful loan spell with Atletico Madrid last season. There’s also the fact that Manchester City recently signed Malaga’s Willy Caballero as backup goalkeeper to support their prior choice Joe Heart.

Barcelona signed both Claudio Bravo and Marc-Andre ter Stegen following the departure of longtime number one goalkeeper Victor Valdes. Who is still available for any club to be found as prime or backup goalkeeper. Real Madrid recently signed Costa Rican goalkeeping hero Keylor Navas to act as backup for Spanish goalkeeping legend Iker Casillas. No doubt, sometimes it feels like the number one goalkeeper of his age is currently on the downswing of his career with the Spanish Giants Real Madrid.

All this to say, backup goalkeepers are becoming a hotter commodity than ever in soccer. It’s becoming increasingly obvious as this transfer window comes to a close.

10 Most Valuable Backup Goalkeepers in Soccer:

These 10 goalkeepers are still worth decent amounts of money despite their status of having to warm the bench. Though they are found more capable of providing a decent challenge to the guy in front.

Here we are discussing and making the list of top 10 most valuable backup goalkeepers in soccer / football world. These ranks are totally based on their market value.

Let’s find, who is the most valuable backup goalkeeper in soccer world?

10. Pepe Reina

Top 10 Most Valuable Backup Goalkeepers in Soccer, Pepe reina
Pepe Reina ; image credit de.wikipedia.org

Present Club: Bayern Munich

Expense: $6.6 million

He was well known for so long as the main man in Liverpool. It’s a little bit strange to see Pepe Reina act as a backup nowadays in Bayern Munich. At 32 years of age, he is probably fitting that would be more accepting of a role as a mentor for Manuel Neuer, who is arguably considered as the best goalkeeper in world football.

With Bayern expected to make a serious run once again for the Champions League trophy this season, it was probably hard for the Spaniard. He is currently considered the number 10th of the list – top 10 most valuable backup goalkeepers in soccer. His current market value is at $6.6 million, which is turned down undoubtedly.

 Present Club: Monaco

Expense: $7.3 million

Maarten Stekelenburg is currently on loan at Monaco after Fulham. The Dutch goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg is acting as the backup goalkeeper for Les Rouges et Blancs behind Danijel Subasic this season. Surprisingly he is barely entered his 30s and has gained 54 caps for the Dutch national soccer team.

Marten may be several years removed from his best days as a member of Ajax, still has a market value of $7.3 million. Which makes him the 9th most valued backup goalkeeper right now. Stekelenburg still comes with a decent price tag for any team to have.

08. Jack Butland

Top 10 Most Valuable Backup Goalkeepers in Soccer, Jack Butland

Present club: Stoke City

Expense: $7.3 million

Jack has been considered as England’s goalkeeper of the future. Probably that’s the cause behind, Roy Hodgson brought him along for Euro 2012 two years ago. His previous club Birmingham City is proof enough that he’s got plenty of potential as goalkeeper.

However the 21-year-old is likely to play the role of backup to Asmir Begovic at Stoke. Unless the Potters can secure a last-minute loan spell for him. He is currently considered the 8th in the list of top 10 most important backup goalkeepers in the world. His current market value is $7.3 million. And he may not really be content to warm the bench despite his young career. He is being sent on a sixth loan spell may not be something he particularly wants either.

07. Willy Caballero

Present Club: Manchester City

Expense: $7.3 million

Willy had a very successful time as the main man at Malaga in La Liga previously. He has been inexplicably snubbed time and time again from the Argentine national team. Willy Caballero’s recent signing with Manchester City means that his chances of playing for his country have decreased a bit. As Joe Heart remains the main guy at the Etihad Stadium, he may only be called upon in case of injury.

Still with $7.3 million market price, Willy is at number 7 in this list of 10 most valuable backup goalkeepers in soccer 2015. It’s uncertain as to how long Caballero will be content to just be the second-string keeper at City.

06. Michael Agazzi

Top 10 Most Valuable Backup Goalkeepers in Soccer, Michael Agazzi
Michael Agazzi ; image credit www.goal.com

Present Club: AC Milan

Expense: $8.8 million

Michael Agazzi is probably the least recognizable name on this list. The Milan backup goalkeeper Michael Agazzi has built up a decent reputation for himself as the main goalkeeper at Cagliari. At Chievo Verona earlier this year then led to him moving to the San Siro. They also signed Diego Lopez from AC Milan Football Club.

The 30-year-old is rated with a market value of $8.8 million. This makes him rank at 6th in the list of most valued backup goalkeepers in soccer world. He may not have much of a chance to compete for time as the number one keeper if Lopez’s performances for the Rossoneri are consistently better. The fact that longtime keeper Christian Abbiati is still on their books surely doesn’t also provoke.

Present club: Tottenham Hotspur

Expense: $8.8 million

Vorm has been capped 15 times by the Dutch national team. He was also chosen as going to the World Cup this past summer as a member of the Oranje’s third place team. Michel Vorm’s recent signing with Tottenham Hotspur may come back to haunt him.

As Hugo Loris firmly entrenched as Spurs’ number one man, also evergreen American goalkeeper Brad Friedel still on their side, Michel Vorm may have a difficult time starting games at White Hart Lane. He is at fifth position considering the backup goalkeepers priority list. The former Swansea City keeper is rated at a market value of $8.8 million. Hopefully he may not stay in Tottenham for a terribly long sessions.

04. David Ospina

Present club: Arsenal

Expense: $10.3 million

He has been following a great run by the Colombian national team to the quarterfinals of this summer’s 2014 World Cup, Brazil. Most obviously David Ospina needed to play for a bigger club than Nice in Ligue 1. He had been playing with them after moving overseas in 2008.

Arsenal may not necessarily be the answer for that problem. Although he’s clearly good enough to start for a major club. He will likely have to fight for playing time with the Gunners’ longtime number one Wojciech Szczesny now. With a market value of $10.3 million, Ospina is considered 4th of the most valuable backup goalkeepers in 2015 soccer world. The 25 year old still young goalkeeper need his competition which could potentially be fierce.

Present club: Barcelona

Expense: $11.6 million

Claudio Bravo is currently in the starting role for Barcelona FC. As a result of the fact that promising young German keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is out injured for some times. Once ter Stegen returns, Bravo may have to sit a number of games out for the Blaugrana.

He has been playing for the Chilean national team that made it past one of the World Cup’s round. He was the longtime number one for Real Sociedad. Claudio Bravo may not be satisfied to have to be part of a goalkeeping tandem. He is at no. 3 of the 10 most valued backup goalkeepers 2014/2015. At 31 years of age, his market value is $11.6 million, which is still considered fair enough.

02. Keylor Navas

Present club: Real Madrid

Expense: $14.6 million

Navas’ performances for his country at the 2014 World Cup Brazil this summer were nothing short of sensational. Undoubtedly his role in Costa Rica’s run to the quarterfinals was instrumental also. So it was obvious that Keylor Navas would not be content to still be playing for a club like Levante.

The sensational goalkeeper was rewarded with a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid. His market value of $14.6 million shows that he’s good enough to start for many big clubs around Europe. But it’s unknown how often he’ll have to jockey for position with another arguable greatest of our generation. Someday will definitely see him as the number one role at Bernabeu.

Present club: Chelsea

Expense: $24.9 million

Cech has been linked recently to loan spells at clubs like Paris Saint-Germain. Still he remains on Chelsea’s books. It looks as if he’ll have to settle for a backup role behind young Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. Unfortunately if he doesn’t win his place back at Stamford Bridge, Petr Cech will be certain to move elsewhere.

For a time now, he’s still by far the most valuable backup goalkeeper with a market value of almost $25 million. He is also one of the best goalkeepers in recent years and still very much intact even at 32. People believes he has also fallen on the downturn of his career and leading the backup goalkeepers in world soccer.

Top 10 Best Soccer Players in the World 2017-18

Of course, the word ‘best’ is pretty much decisive. And yet very hard to refer some few names as best while confirming the others as not best. Believe me – it’s kind of a mess, finding out the best soccer players in the world. I think there are countless good numbers of players in this sporting arena, who can easily be considered within this best soccer players list 2017-18. Undoubtedly each of the individual readers will find some incredibly necessary replacements of their own stand point in this article.

But as I’m approaching, surely ready to take some risk and at least share my own perspectives for counting these top 10 best soccer players in the world 2017-18. I need to announce one more thing, though this article may seem selective on certain regions, it has actually considered everyone and every position in current soccer world (or you can also call football world depending on your ease of geography).

2017 has been a tremendous year for soccer. Big transfers, shock title winners and also the incredible UEFA Champions League has brought some great soccer impacts on the soccer world. Lots of players have faded, while a great number of others have shone and exploded onto the scene. So, the top 10 best soccer players in the world is basically those names, who have impressed the coming season (2017-2018) combining all common grounds of football.

Best Soccer Players in the world:

Following this article you will definitely notice that the most lacking in superstar talent is at defensive midfielder position. At this very conversation, we must recommend those giant names like – Dunga, Esteban Cambiasso, Gennaro Gattuso and Claude Makelele. At times, when they were in top form and receiving praise for their versatility on both sides in soccer world.

I think it would be a little easier, if we were to find out 50 best soccer players in the world 2017. That would almost fulfill our quest for learning about all those current top talents from Europe’s elite clubs. And of course, sorry again for the certain probability of missing your own choice ‘best!’ soccer players here (who knows! may satisfy too, at least I’ve considerable causes behind picking and also not picking specific names from a bunch of very good footballers with very close competition in achievements and performance statistics).

Let’s check out, who is the best soccer player in the world 20117-18?

10. Andres Iniesta (Spain, Barcelona)

Andres Iniesta, midfield, best football player, best soccer players in the world
Andres Iniesta | image credit – Wikimedia/Clément Bucco-Lechat

People often believed, Andres Iniesta’s understanding with club-mate Xavi Hernandez borders on the telepathic sometimes. The surprising eye of the needle passing the pair produce can pierce holes in the most stubborn of rearguards. The modest and never creating problems for the coaches-man is the 10th consideration best soccer players 2017-2018 in our list. His most remarkable is the winner goal against Netherlands in the 2010 World Cup final.

Probably, so far, he has been able to provide the most consistent presence in central midfield. Alongside Spain National team, the 33-year-old is continuing to be a star for the Catalans in 2017. Of course, he had to suffer with the rest of his teammates, as from any perspectives, 2016 was not the year for Barcelona or Spain. But he had utilized his opportunity while winning the five major cup wins (including Champions League 2015) for Barcelona. Still, no player combines his dribbling skills with ability to split open a defense, makes him a true cast for the top 10 best soccer players in the world 2017.

09. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Sweden, MANU)

The future world football fans are definitely going to ask about this one amazing footballer. Their eyes wide with astonishment will surely look for this one’s performance in YouTube or other sources. Yes, social media will reflect Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s clip reel of gob smacking goals. But the most surprising fact is – age appears not to be withering him at all.

Let’s just forget the last world cup from his career and consider the moodiest player in world soccer of his generation. The 9th best soccer player of Sweden is completely unplayable on his game. You can only witness his stunning soccer performance through the fields. Another notable achievement, Ibra has won league titles in Holland, Italy, Spain and France with seven different clubs. And we hope, the soccer world is yet to watch this great charming footballer at different heights in upcoming years after 2017 with Manchester United. The player is often considered as most handsome soccer player in the world.

08. Robert Lewandowski (Poland, Bayern Munich)

Robert Lewandowski, soccer player, best footballer

Robert Lewandowski has dominated since joining the German giant club Bayern Munich in 2014. The most stylish player has already scored 110 goals in 147 total appearances. Before joining at Bayern he also achieved 103 goals in 187 matches with Borussia Dortmund. He is often considered as the pure scorer in the Bundesliga. The 29-year-old was named the 2016-17 Bundesliga player of the year as he had 43 goals in 47 total appearances for Bayern that alone season.

Now a days we know that pure no. 9 don’t actually get the love they were used to, because of the hybrid attacking midfielders moving up the rank. But surely we can consider him one of the best finishers in the soccer world 2017-18. That’s why he has been named to his league’s team of the year in three straight campaigns, and Champions League Team of the Year in two straight.

07. Manuel Neuer (Germany, Bayern Munich)

Manuel Neuer, best goalkeeper, soccer player

If it was tough to answer, who is the best soccer player in the world? we find much easier to answer another similar question. Who is the best goalkeeper in the world? Considering the time right now, it is easily decidable that Manuel Neuer stands top of the table. He has been at least closer than any other keeper in 2014, even in 2015 and 2016. He didn’t just help Germany win the World Cup and Bayern the domestic double, his daring antics as last line for club and country he helped redefine the entire concept of modern goalkeeping in soccer world.

His crucial defensive interventions outside his own area and skillful anticipation prompt his national team coach Joachim Löw to describe him as the ‘perfect player’.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNM8PyClmi4

The world’s best goalkeeper had revolutionized his position as well as transcending it. The award would be more than just consideration of Ballon d’Or. But surely all this complete achievements let us to keep his name at least at number seven as best soccer player in the world 2017-18.

06. Marcelo (Brazil, Real Madrid)

Marcelo, soccer player, brazilian star, defender
Marcelo | image credit – Wikimedia/Майоров Владимир

The only defender on this list, Marcelo’s selection is sure to create some controversy. But you can easily understand that there is no better playmaker in the world coming forward from the back line in 2017-18. The 29-year-old just finished his 11th season at Real Madrid, capping it off with his fifth La Liga championship, third Champions League title and was named to the FIFA team of the year 2017.

Marcelo was also on the FIFA World Cup Dream Team in 2014, the ESM Team of the Year the last two seasons. Real and Brazil can always rely upon him both going forward and defending. In our consideration he is surely the most skilled defender in the world 2017.

If someone think I’m overvaluing him, just watch what he did during Real’s march to the Champions League title last season.

05. Antoine Griezmann (France, Atlético Madrid)

Antoine Griezmann has been firmly establishing himself as one of the premier players in the world. He led the French national team to the final at Euro 2016, and led the competition with six goals, winning the Golden Boot. In fact, he would be rightly named Player of the Tournament. This versatile player can line up as a pure striker, drop back into an attacking midfield role, or even play on the wing.

Griezmann has scored 83 goals in 160 total appearances with Atletico Madrid in only three seasons. He finished third in voting for the Ballon d’Or in 2016, was named La Liga’s Best Player, was named to UEFA’s Team of the Year and was on the Champions League Team of the Season. Only at the age of 26, Griezmann is shooting up this list in his prime. We place this young star as the 5th best soccer player in our list 2017-18.

04. Luis Suárez (Uruguay, Barcelona)

Luis Suárez, barcelona, best scorer, la liga, footballer
Luis Suárez | image credit – Wikimedia/Олег Дубина

Luis Suarez had a slow start at Barcelona. This one statement says much about how good Suárez is, the rest of his career, which easily provokes us placing his name at number four in this list of best soccer players2017-18. Suárez’s impact on Liverpool’s electrifying Premier League title challenge came from not just his goals, but his infectious drive and intensity on the field. One of the very few players in the world capable of deciding a game single-handedly. The Uruguay best soccer player also had a decisive impact for his national team at the World Cup.

His individual brilliance assures his name with the extraordinary footballers list, even without any Ballon d’Or achievement. The great player was reported to attempt eight dribbles per game in 2012/2013 season. The 30-year-old has an unbelievable feel for the game and can create scoring chances from nothing.

May be that’s reason why he was able to win the Premier League Golden Boot and be named to the FWA Footballer of the Year in 2014, was on the Champions League Team of the Season twice (2015, 2016), and the FIFPro World XI in 2016. Uruguay’s all-time leading scorer need to attain a lot more to keep his position safe with the Catalans. But the last 2016-2017 session in European football has definitely been a tremendous remark for his individual achievements.

03. Neymar (Brazil, PSG)

Arguably the most purely talented player in the world right this moment. The number three of this list of best soccer players 2017 just turned 25. Its unbelievable. It feels like he’s been around forever. The PSG forward is unmatched with the ball at his feet, an absolute wizard with individual skill and dribbling. The Brazilian sensation can also be considered as the world’s best passer in 2017-18.

Since his transfer to PSG this year, Neymar has been an offensive force for the club. He was also one of the key factor for his previous team FC Barcelona. He scored 105 goals in 186 total appearances. He’s already helped Barcelona win two La Liga titles (2015 and 2016), three straight Copa del Rey trophies (2015, 2016, 2017) and a Champions League crown in 2015.

Brazil’s next great leader, finished fifth in 2016 Ballon d’Or voting. He’ll almost assuredly win the award some day, and is on a path to be No. 1 on this list.

02. Lionel Messi (Argentina, Barcelona)

I know, all you have already guessed the top two places for this list of 10 best soccer players in the world 2017-18. Yes, of course he is Lionel Messi, the incredible five times Ballon d’Or winner of World football is at number two. Believe me, its never been some awards only, I have taken Lionel Messi at the top considering the overall performance of his astonishing career.

Though, the World Cup 2014 was not a good memory for the Argentine. Never has a man been awarded best player at a World Cup and looked so uniquely crestfallen. Yes he carried Argentina to a first World Cup final since 1990, but was still criticized heavily for going missing – particularly in the final during which he spurned a golden chance.

He’s the all-time La Liga leader in goals scored (349), assists (137), goals scored in a La Liga season (50), goals in a club football season in Europe (73) and in a calendar year (91). He has won 29 trophies during his 13 seasons at Barcelona, including eight La Liga championships and four Champions League crowns.

Lionel Messi remains one of the world’s best soccer players, but such is life at football’s sharp end that he had to drop down a place to Cristiano Ronaldo previous year. But now with every possible reason we can remark him as the second-best soccer player in the world 2017.

01. Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal, Real Madrid)

These two have been the top two players in the world for nearly a decade. Since 2008, no one other than Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi has won the Ballon d’Or. So what separates the two of them? It was incredibly difficult, but eventually I had to put Ronaldo at the best because of his last years achievement with the National team of Portugal and Real Madrid.

He has been a four times Balon d’Or (last one in 2016) winner. who knows, now with this remarkable season of 2016-2017, winning La Liga and UEFA Champions League 2017 and being the man of the match he can be a sure match for five Balon d’Or. What parameters else can be found other than ending at Ronaldo. He is the highest paid soccer player in the world, best looking footballer, highest earning athlete and now the second best soccer player in the world 2017.

I think there is no one to argue, he has been one of the driving forces in world football throughout the year. In 394 total matches over eight seasons at Real, he’s scored 406 goals. In 265 La Liga appearances, he has scored 285 goals. The 32-year-old proved he was still at the top of his game during the 2016-17 campaign. Ronaldo has scored 622 goals for club and country, which currently ranks sixth all-time.

Who knows where this mighty best soccer player can end his footballing journey. His worldwide fan base confirms his ability and performance consistency, eventually which determines him as the best soccer player in the world 20117-18.
